5 Gen was born when on-site partner Dave Thomson convinced wife and business manager Coraley Letcher to open a general construction company together. Formed in January 2017, 5 Gen Construction Ltd. serves the Elk Valley and South Country in Southeastern BC.

Dave Thomson
Dave started in the industry over 16 years ago as a labourer for an established local roofing company. Working his way up to installing and eventually branching out into other areas of carpentry. His work experience covers many areas including roofing/soffit/fascia, exterior finishing, foundation work, interior finishing and shed/deck/fence building.
Dave was awarded a spot on Kootenay Business Magazine's Top 40 Under 40 list for 2019. |

In our previous work experiences, both in and out of the construction industry, we had both witnessed or experienced less than upstanding scenarios justified by "business being business" and something we both agreed on right from the start was that we wanted to operate our business differently. Business generates money, but no matter what your business is, its nucleus is people - whether employees or customers. We made it one of our goals to never forget that and to base our business philosophy on treating others with respect and appreciation. From our employees to our customers, we strive to run our business with ethics, mutual benefit and integrity at its core. Profit is necessary for a business to thrive but we believe it can be achieved by putting high-quality work, ethics, and people first - not the other way around.
